MORE DETAILS of
grasstrack's return to
Donington Park were
released by organisers
Burton & Leicester
Grasstrack Association this
week.

Co-promoter Rob Smith
confirmed three definite events
have been planned by the
association at the famous racing
circuit in 2012 under the tag of
'The Donington Demon,' while a
fourth is still under consideration
for later in the campaign.

As revealed exclusively in
Speedway Star (December 17) all
eyes will be on Donington - which last staged grasstrack racing in the 1990s - on May 12 when the association will stage "The Donington Demon Main
Event" as part of the World
Superbike weekend.

Smith added flesh to those
bones with the announcement
the meeting, which would form a
round of the East Midlands
Centre Championships, would
comprise just four classes, 250,
350 and 500 solos plus lOOOcc
right-hand sidecars.

Camping for all these events
will be permitted, but the club
has advised it will be heavily
'policed' because of Donington
being on the flight path for East
Midlands airport.
Therefore, both racers and
spectators are asked to fully cooperate
with stewards and camp
as directed.
More details of all three of
these events including regs will
soon be available on the club
website

While the TRC member and
well known clerk of the course
knows such news will disappoint
the likes of the 500cc and lefthand
sidecars, not to mention
Pre-75 and Upright racers, he
says that is the nature of staging
an evening fixture.
He said: "We have a very tight
timescale to run to because of
being on the Saturday evening
before the World Superbikes on
the Sunday.

"We have to get the whole
meeting into about a four-hour
window between 3.30-7.30pm so
it was not possible to include
everyone this time."
The good news is those classes
who have the chance to race on
May 12, and any others for that
matter, will be able to get a taste
of the circuit at the Donington
Demon Old Devils' Practice Day
scheduled for Sunday, March 25.
This in turn will be part of a
weekend of action with the
Saturday being devoted to a
youth fixture entitled 'Donington
Demon Little Devils'.
This will be for all youth
classes, including the three MX
events, 65, 85 small wheel and 85
big wheel.
