After securing a race venue, a small group of local enthusiasts and riders put together a proposal to form a new club.
The Leicester Mercury newspaper reported on the possibility of a new Grass Track club being formed (It had been 25 years since the last Grass Track meetings had been held within Leicestershire). In February 1993 a public meeting was called to establish the level of local interest.
The inaugural meeting was held at the King William pub Thurcaston Leicester and attracted an attendance of over 80 people, who either wished to learn about the proposed clubs plans, or to offer help and support. The Leicester Grass Track Club was established that evening.
It was agreed that the main aims of the new club were to:
Hold race events for riders of all abilities
Cater for all machine classes and engine capacities
Run up to 3 or 4 race meetings per season
Promote Grass Track locally to help attract new riders and spectators to the sport
Organise social events for riding and non riding members.
Affiliation to the East Midlands Centre of the ACU came the following month.
It was planned to hold 3 race meetings that season.
The first race meeting for the new club was scheduled to take place at Breach Farm Saddington Leicestershire on June 6th 1993. After many months of planning and hard work and with the track erected the weather took for the worst and the event had to be cancelled with 2 days to go. The meeting had to be rescheduled and held 2 weeks later. Click button below to continue.
