The Donington Demon "Main Event" East Midlands Championship incorporating the Jim Rendall Trophy is now being held at Donington Park on the Afternoon of 8th September 2012
Meeting Rescheduled For 8th September 2012
SAME FORMAT Less RAIN!!!
Grasstrack Racing was Cancelled
Waterlogged Track
It is with much regret that THE DONINGTON DEMON will not go ahead as planned. We walked the track on Sunday 6th May and decided the land is far too wet underfoot to continue.
After discussions with the land owner, the circuit groundstaff who have local knowledge and ourselves, it was decided to postpone the event until the weekend of the British Super Bikes in September.
We shall hopefully be using the same format with afternoon/evening practice and racing on Saturday 8th September 2012.
There is little chance of the land drying sufficiently in time for the planned event, even without the torrential rain that is forecast for Thursday 10th May in the East Midlands. The land is of a slightly acid loamy and clayey soils with impeded drainage which stood the test very well after the March weekend.
However as the landowner has other uses for this field in the next 2 months we felt the best plan was to surrender to the weather. It has been an unusual weather year so far, as you will understand.
April 2012 was the coldest April since 1989, the dullest since 1998 and the wettest since 2000. More remarkably, it was around 1C colder than March, a rare, but not unprecedented occurrence. The upturn in rainfall from March was the most noticeable feature of the month; there have been only three wetter Aprils in 285 years of records in England and Wales and across the UK as a whole it has been the wettest April for at least a century.
Grass Track Racing was cancelled and is now rearranged for 8th September to coincide with the BSB weekend!
